Remove PDF Password — Unlock & Download Instantly

Remove PDF password protection for free, entirely in your browser. Enter the document's password, and the tool decrypts and saves an unlocked copy to your device — no server upload, no account, and no data shared with anyone.

How to remove a PDF password

  1. Upload the PDF — click Choose PDF and select the password-protected file from your device.
  2. Enter the password — type the document’s current password in the password field. This is the password you use to open (or print/copy) the PDF.
  3. Unlock & download — click Remove Password. An unlocked copy is saved directly to your device.

What types of PDF encryption are removed?

PDF files can have two kinds of passwords:

  • User password (open password) — required to open the file at all. You must know this password for the tool to work.
  • Owner password (permissions password) — restricts printing, copying, or editing even when the file can be opened without a password. This tool removes both types when the correct password is provided.

Why process locally instead of uploading?

Unlocking a PDF requires the password. Sending both the encrypted file and its password to a third-party server is a significant security risk. Aapka Helper’s tool decrypts your PDF using pdf-lib running entirely inside your browser:

  • The password never leaves your device.
  • The original file is not sent anywhere.
  • Ideal for confidential documents, exam results, payslips, and banking statements.

Frequently asked questions

I don’t know the password — can the tool still remove it? No. This tool decrypts PDFs using the correct password you supply. It does not crack or brute-force unknown passwords.

The tool says “Incorrect password” but I’m sure the password is right. Some PDF editors set a blank owner password. Try leaving the password field empty and clicking Remove Password.

What if the PDF has no password but editing is still blocked? Try submitting the file with an empty password field. Some “restricted” PDFs have an empty owner password that can be cleared this way.

Is the original file affected? No. The tool reads your original file, creates a new decrypted copy in memory, and downloads that copy. Your original file is not modified.
