GDS Salary 2026 — TRCA, DA & What You Actually Get
Pay is Time-Related Continuity Allowance, not a 7th CPC matrix. Hours are 4–5 a day. BPM must rent/arrange the branch office building.

Costs that eat TRCA
- BPM: room/shop for the Branch Office — you pay rent/fit-out.
- Cycling / local travel on the beat (Dak Sevak).
- You must have another livelihood; GDS is not meant as the family’s only income.
After the merit list
- Shortlist → report for DV in 15 days or the system marks Non-turned up.
- Provisional offer → 3-day training + join in 30 days.
- Miss the 30 days and the post goes to the next person.
GDS vs Postman / MTS
GDS is an engagement under GDS Rules, not a regular Group C post. Many GDS later sit departmental exams for Postman, Mail Guard or MTS — those have separate notifications and a written test. Do not treat GDS TRCA as SSC CHSL pay.
FAQs
What is GDS in-hand salary?
Starting TRCA is ₹12,000 (BPM) or ₹10,000 (ABPM/Dak Sevak), plus DA on TRCA as notified. A 3% annual increase applies if service conditions are met. This is not 7th CPC Level pay.
Is GDS a permanent central government job?
It is a Department of Posts engagement under GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020 — a civil post outside regular civil services. Hours are 4–5 a day; maximum age in engagement is 65. You must have another livelihood source.
Does a BPM get a government building?
No. Selected BPMs arrange Branch Post Office accommodation at their own cost, then complete 3-day training and join within 30 days of the provisional offer.
