JoSAA 2026 (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) is set up by the Ministry of Education to manage joint seat allocation for 138 institutes — 23 IITs, IISc Bengaluru, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 56 Other-GFTIs — for academic year 2026-27. All admissions happen through one portal: josaa.nic.in.

How JoSAA counselling works
- Register on josaa.nic.in using JEE (Main) 2026 credentials (or JEE Advanced direct login for foreign/OCI candidates).
- Fill institute-program choices in order of preference — free of cost (2 Jun – 11 Jun 2026).
- Lock choices before deadline; use mock seat allocations on 8 & 10 June to test preferences.
- After each round seat allocation, complete online reporting: accept seat (Freeze/Float/Slide), upload documents, pay seat acceptance fee.
- NIT+ candidates pay Partial Admission Fee (PAF) after Round 5; further vacant seats via CSAB special rounds.

- What is JoSAA 2026?
- JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) manages joint e-counselling and seat allocation for 138 institutes — 23 IITs, IISc, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 56 Other-GFTIs — for academic year 2026-27 through a single online portal at josaa.nic.in.
- Who can participate in JoSAA 2026?
- Candidates who qualified JEE (Advanced) 2026 (for IITs/IISc) or secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2026 Paper 1/IIA/IIB (for NIT+ System), and meet Class XII performance criteria, can register on the JoSAA portal.
- When is JoSAA 2026 choice filling?
- Registration and choice filling run from 2 June 2026 (17:00 IST) to 11 June 2026 (17:00 IST). Choices are auto-locked at the deadline if not locked manually.
- What is the JoSAA seat acceptance fee?
- ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD category candidates and ₹30,000 for all others (includes ₹5,000 JoSAA processing charges). Pay once in the round where a seat is first allotted.
- What is Freeze, Float and Slide?
- Freeze accepts the seat and stops further rounds. Float accepts the seat but allows upgrade to a higher-preference program in any institute. Slide accepts the seat but allows upgrade within the same institute only.
- How many counselling rounds does JoSAA 2026 have?
- Five seat allocation rounds. Round 5 is the final round for IITs/IISc. NIT+ candidates may pay Partial Admission Fee (PAF) after Round 5 and proceed to CSAB special rounds.
