WB Police Constable written exam is a single-stage objective test of 85 questions for 85 marks in 1 hour. The paper is set in Bengali and Nepali. Each correct answer carries 1 mark; wrong answers deduct 0.25 marks. PMT and PET are qualifying; Interview carries 15 marks.

- Bilingual paper — Bengali and Nepali

- Interview: 15 marks · Total selection score: Written (85) + Interview (15) = 100
- Must read, write and speak Bengali or Nepali — tested in interview

General Awareness & General Knowledge (25 Questions)
- Indian history and national movement
- Geography of India and West Bengal — rivers, districts, natural resources
- Indian polity, Constitution and five-year plans
- General science, biodiversity, climate change, ozone layer
- West Bengal agriculture, economy and government schemes
- Current affairs — national, international and WB state (last 12 months)
- Sports, awards, books and important days
Elementary Mathematics — Madhyamik Standard (25 Questions)
- Number system, simplification, HCF/LCM
- Percentage, ratio and proportion, profit & loss
- Simple and compound interest, partnership
- Time & work, time-speed-distance, averages
- Mensuration, geometry, algebra basics
Reasoning & Logical Analysis (25 Questions)
- Analogy, classification, number and alphabet series
- Coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense
- Logical puzzles, Venn diagrams, cubes and dice
- Statement and conclusion, figure arithmetical series
- Paper folding/cutting and arithmetical reasoning
English (10 Questions)
- Synonyms, antonyms, vocabulary and phrasal verbs
- Idioms and phrases, one-word substitutions
- Voice change, narration, sentence correction
- Fill in the blanks and appropriate word usage
Selection Process
- Written Examination — 85 MCQs (GK 25 + English 10 + Maths 25 + Reasoning 25), 85 marks, 1 hour
- Physical Measurement Test (PMT) — height, weight, chest (male) — qualifying
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — 1600 m run (male, 6 min 30 sec) / 800 m run (female, 4 min) — qualifying
- Interview — 15 marks (general awareness, Bengali/Nepali read-write-speak ability)
- Document Verification & Medical Examination
Preparation Tips
- GK carries 25 marks — prioritise West Bengal history, geography and current affairs.
- Maths is Madhyamik level — revise WBBSE Class 9–10 arithmetic and mensuration.
- Reasoning has 25 questions — practice series, coding-decoding and puzzles daily.
- With −0.25 negative marking, avoid blind guessing — attempt only when 70%+ confident.
- Start PET training early — 1600 m in 6 min 30 sec (male) needs regular running practice.
