WB Police Constable written exam is a single-stage objective test of 85 questions for 85 marks in 1 hour. The paper is set in Bengali and Nepali. Each correct answer carries 1 mark; wrong answers deduct 0.25 marks. PMT and PET are qualifying; Interview carries 15 marks.

Elementary Mathematics — Madhyamik Standard (25 Questions)

  • Number system, simplification, HCF/LCM
  • Percentage, ratio and proportion, profit & loss
  • Simple and compound interest, partnership
  • Time & work, time-speed-distance, averages
  • Mensuration, geometry, algebra basics

Reasoning & Logical Analysis (25 Questions)

  • Analogy, classification, number and alphabet series
  • Coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense
  • Logical puzzles, Venn diagrams, cubes and dice
  • Statement and conclusion, figure arithmetical series
  • Paper folding/cutting and arithmetical reasoning

English (10 Questions)

  • Synonyms, antonyms, vocabulary and phrasal verbs
  • Idioms and phrases, one-word substitutions
  • Voice change, narration, sentence correction
  • Fill in the blanks and appropriate word usage

Selection Process

  1. Written Examination — 85 MCQs (GK 25 + English 10 + Maths 25 + Reasoning 25), 85 marks, 1 hour
  2. Physical Measurement Test (PMT) — height, weight, chest (male) — qualifying
  3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — 1600 m run (male, 6 min 30 sec) / 800 m run (female, 4 min) — qualifying
  4. Interview — 15 marks (general awareness, Bengali/Nepali read-write-speak ability)
  5. Document Verification & Medical Examination
