TNUSRB Police Constable written exam has two OMR papers totalling 150 marks over 160 minutes. Paper 1 (Tamil) is qualifying — candidates need 40% (32 marks). Paper 2 (General Knowledge + Psychological Test) determines merit with 70 marks.

  • Merit is based on Paper 2 marks (70) + PET marks (24) + Special marks (5) — verify weightage in official notification
  • PMT, Endurance Test and PET are qualifying; PET also carries 24 marks for merit

Syllabus — Subject-wise Topics

Paper 1 — Tamil Language (Qualifying, 80 Marks)

  • Tamil grammar — sandhi, samasam, alankaram, porul, ezhuthu
  • Tamil literature — Sangam, Bhakti, modern authors and their works
  • Thirukkural — selected kurals, meaning and application
  • Proverbs ( Pazhamozhi ), idioms and word formation
  • Reading comprehension and error correction in Tamil
  • Minimum 40% (32 marks) required — marks not added to merit

Paper 2 — General Knowledge (45 Marks)

  • Tamil Nadu history, culture, geography and administration
  • Indian history — freedom movement, constitution, polity
  • Geography — rivers, dams, national parks, TN districts
  • General science — physics, chemistry, biology (Class 8–10 level)
  • Current affairs — national, international, sports, awards (last 12 months)
  • Economy — banking, schemes, TN state welfare programmes

Paper 2 — Psychological Test (25 Marks)

  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Numerical ability — series, percentages, ratios
  • Communication skills and situational judgement
  • Personality assessment and decision-making scenarios
  • Basic IQ and pattern recognition questions

Physical Efficiency Test — PET Events (24 Marks)

  • Men: Rope climbing, Long jump (3.80–4.50 m), High jump (1.20–1.40 m), 100 m run, 400 m run
  • Women: Long jump, Shot put (4 kg), Cricket ball throw, 100 m run, 200 m run
  • Scoring: 0 / 4 / 8 marks per event (No Star / 1 Star / 2 Stars) — max 24 marks
  • Must participate in all 3 assigned events — missing any event leads to disqualification

Selection Process

  1. Written Examination — Paper 1 (Tamil, 80 marks, qualifying at 40%) + Paper 2 (GK 45 + Psychology 25 = 70 marks merit)
  2. Physical Measurement Test (PMT) — height & chest verification (qualifying)
  3. Endurance Test (ET) — 1500 m run (male, 7 min) / 400 m run (female, 2 min 30 sec)
  4. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — rope climb, long jump, high jump, running events (24 marks, star-based scoring)
  5. Special Marks — up to 5 marks (NCC, NSS, Sports achievements)
  6. Document Verification & Medical Examination
