Primary Class Teacher Role Profile The role of the Primary Class Teacher is to plan, teach and assess primary education lessons that encourage pupils to develop their physical, social and emotional skills while achieving their full potential. The teacher will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that cater to diverse abilities, build confidence, and equip pupils with essential physical and teamwork skills.

Proficiency in teaching swimming is essential to help pupils build water confidence, develop techniques, and understand water safety. The teacher will support school initiatives including subject leadership, extracurricular activities and interschool competitions. The role requires empathy, initiative and a proactive attitude to create a supportive environment for pupils.

Responsibilities Lead and deputise for the Principal where appropriate and work with the leadership team on aims, objectives and strategic plans. Manage self‑evaluation, the Primary Phase Development Plan, and publish an effective primary timetable. Conduct performance management reviews and support the performance review process for all academic staff.

Coordinate staff development needs, design CPD programmes, evaluate their impact, and assist with recruitment and induction of primary staff. Maintain Key Stage 1 and 2 reviews, Student and Parent Handbooks, the weekly Primary Newsletter, and website content. Promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure high‑quality teaching and effective working relationships.

Set and monitor academic targets, evaluate primary academic standards, analyse performance data, and take appropriate action on emerging issues. Provide clear information on academic and ECA programmes and support communication with students, parents and stakeholders. Support school marketing, liaison activities, and open days. Manage space, staff, money and equipment, prepare the primary phase budget, and act as a cost‑centre holder for equipment and supplies.

Ensure teaching commitments are timetabled efficiently and monitor attendance and behaviour management policies. Encourage and facilitate staff personal development and professional growth. Teaching and Learning Lead curriculum development across the primary phase, ensuring challenging and interesting academic and ECA programmes that align with the school philosophy. Incorporate new and emerging technologies to enhance learning experiences.

Collect and analyse assessment data to inform planning and track progress, setting high expectations and stretching targets. Support teachers through coaching, mentoring and classroom observations, providing feedback and next steps. Promote a culture of excellence that encourages lifelong engagement in physical activity. Health and Safety Emphasise safety across all curriculum areas, ensuring pupils understand responsible attitudes towards personal and collective safety.

Perform playground duties, protect equipment and facilities, and apply all pupil life policies and conduct rules. Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed and maintain awareness of required measures.

Qualifications and Experience PGCE or equivalent. Minimum of two years of school experience as a Primary Class Teacher. Strong communication skills, professionalism, and safeguarding knowledge. Ability to work collaboratively, manage behaviour, and display empathy and integrity. Intercultural awareness, flexibility, and a proactive mindset.
