Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Consultant

in Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates. The Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of mental health disorders affecting children, adolescents, and their families.

The post holder will lead the delivery of high-quality psychiatric services, provide clinical leadership within the department, and contribute to teaching, research, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary care initiatives. The Consultant is expected to demonstrate clinical excellence in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry while supporting the development of junior medical staff and promoting a patient-centered, family-focused approach to mental healthcare.

Key ResponsibilitiesClinical ResponsibilitiesProvide specialized psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for children and adolescents presenting with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and psychiatric disorders. Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing pharmacological, psychological, behavioral, and family-based interventions. Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, and mental status examinations.

Lead and supervise the care provided by Specialists, Residents, Fellows, and other junior medical staff. Provide consultation services to pediatric, emergency medicine, family medicine, neurology, and other specialties as required. Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings involving psychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses, educators, and pediatric specialists.

Ensure accurate, timely, and comprehensive medical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory

requirements. Accept and manage referrals from outpatient clinics, inpatient units, emergency departments, schools, community agencies, and external healthcare providers. Participate in outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, and emergency psychiatric assessments as required. Provide crisis intervention and risk management for children and adolescents presenting with psychiatric emergencies. Participate in the on-call roster and provide after-hours coverage as required.

Leadership and Administrative ResponsibilitiesSupport and implement hospital, departmental, and divisional policies and procedures. Participate in department planning, service development, and performance improvement initiatives. Assist the Division Chief in maintaining appropriate clinical coverage and staffing levels. Support recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of medical staff within the department.

Participate in peer review, utilization management, morbidity and mortality reviews, and clinical governance activities. Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at improving child and adolescent mental health services. Attend departmental, medical staff, and multidisciplinary meetings as required. Quality and Patient SafetyPromote a culture of patient safety and continuous quality improvement. Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement projects.

Support incident reporting, investigation, and implementation of corrective actions. Ensure compliance with international best practices, accreditation standards, and regulatory

requirements. Monitor clinical outcomes and implement evidence-based improvements to patient care. Education and ResearchProvide teaching, supervision, and mentorship to Residents, Fellows, Medical Students, and Allied Health Professionals. Facilitate continuing medical education (CME) and professional development initiatives within the department. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and related disciplines.

Participate in clinical research, publications, presentations, and academic activities. Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, protocols, and educational programs. Qualification RequirementsEducationMedical Degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent) recognized by the Department of Health (DOH), Abu Dhabi. Completion of an approved residency training program in Psychiatry.

Subspecialty Certification/Fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry from a recognized training institution. Board CertificationRequiredMinimum of 2 years' experience as a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist following board certification. Minimum of 8 years' full-time experience as a Consultant or equivalent following board certification in an internationally accredited institution (inclusive of fellowship training where applicable).
