Exam Pattern 2026

RBI Grade B is a three-phase nationwide exam. Phase I is a single 200-mark objective paper (2 hours). Phase II has objective + descriptive papers. Negative marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer in objective sections.

  • Phase I total: 200 questions, 200 marks, 120 minutes (sectional time limits apply)
  • Negative marking: ¼ mark deducted per wrong answer in objective papers
  • Sectional + aggregate minimum marks required to qualify Phase I
  • Phase II: Paper I (ESI), Paper II (English descriptive), Paper III (Finance & Management) — General stream
  • Interview carries 50 marks; shortlisted from Phase II aggregate only

Paper I (Statistics objective) on 14 June; Papers II & III (descriptive Statistics) on 26 July. Master's in Statistics/Mathematics/M. Stat. with 55% marks required.

Attempt Limit

General category: maximum 6 attempts. No attempt limit for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD if age criteria met.

Selection Process

  1. Phase I (Prelims) — 200-mark objective online test; qualifying in nature with sectional + aggregate cut-off
  2. Phase II (Mains) — Economics & Social Issues, English (descriptive), Finance & Management (General stream)
  3. Interview — 50 marks; final merit from Phase II aggregate + interview

Educational qualification and age must be met as on 01 April 2026. Final-year students are not eligible.

DEPR Stream Master's in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Finance with 55% aggregate; or MBA/PGDM Finance with 55%.
DSIM Stream Master's in Statistics / Mathematical Statistics / M. Stat. (ISI) / PGDBA (ISI–IIT–IIM) with 55%; or Mathematics Master's + 1-year stats diploma.
Age (General) 21–30 years (born between 2 April 1996 and 1 April 2005). M.Phil. relaxable to 32; Ph.D. to 34.
